Meet BOS Member Maurice Williams
Where do you consider your hometown?
I have lived in a lot places in the US (mostly on the East Coast), but the one place that I consider my home town is Panama City, Panamá (in Central America, not the Florida). I lived there my entire childhood. While I did not appreciate it as much as I should when I was younger ... I now love just about everything about Panama, the weather, the food, the celebrations, the easy access to so many beaches, the culture - just the lifestyle in general. How long have you been in Ypsi?
I actually don't live in Ypsi, but I love spending time in and around Ypsi. Especially on some of the trails during the summer and fall. When I moved to Michigan 7-ish years ago I looked at quite a few places in Ypsi but ended in Canton since it was significantly closer to my job at the time. What do you like about Ypsi?
I really enjoy the diversity and authenticity of the people I talk to and see in Ypsi. The food is also great -- my new favorite lunch spot is "Encuentro Latino" which is right around the corner from BOS, on Michigan Ave. What passion are you pursuing at The BOS?
I work remotely as a Web Developer for a biopharma-tech startup. On top of that I also freelance regularly and I'm pursuing a few entrepreneurial endeavors with some friends. Sometimes I worry that I will lose track of all what I have going up but I'm just one of those people that can't stay still and can always find something to do. Being surrounded by others that are doing so many different things really motivates me to continue pursuing my personal projects. What's a fun BOS story?
I guess it would have to be how I discovered BOS and met John. Last year (late summer / late fall) I was actually Googling for a coworking spot to join. I somehow came across the BOS Facebook page and sent them a message on there (keep in mind that BOS was still under heavy construction at this point). John ended up offering to give me a hard-hat tour the space that week. And the rest is history. It has been pretty incredible to see the space go from unfinished drywall and dust everywhere to an active community. Have you ever been told you look like someone famous, who was it?
Not so much now but when I was in middle-school I was always told I looked like Will Smith.
